The GrowDelta Initiative is truly a collaboration of community leaders, businesspeople, dedicated citizens from around the state, and others who care deeply about both preserving the unique character of the Mississippi Delta and creating a framework and training ground for those wanting to contribute to the region's success and their own prosperity through new small business ventures.

Here is a little about the two founders of the group:

CharlieCharles Noble, PhD received his doctorate in Marketing from Arizona State University (1996), an MBA from Babson College and a B.S. (Finance) from Boston College.  He joined the faculty of the University of Mississippi as an Assistant Professor in fall 2001 and has served as Director of MBA Programs and Director of PhD Programs for the business school. He recently graduated in the inaugural class of the SEC's Academic Leadership Development Program. He is currently Associate Professor of and the Morris Lewis Lecturer in Marketing.  Charles’ research interests focus generally on the new product development process, with a focus on the influence of product design in new product development efforts. His research has published in many leading journals including Journal of Marketing, Strategic Management Journal, Journal of Business Research, Journal of Personal Selling & Sales Management, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, and Journal of Product Innovation Management.  Charles has consulted for many organizations, primarily in the airline, retailing, and consumer goods sectors and is a Principal in CSN Marketing Solutions, a marketing consultancy. Prior to entering academia, Charles worked as a senior financial analyst focusing on strategic planning and real estate development for two national retail chains. While an undergraduate student, Charles was thrilled to have to chance to be part of the management team launching the "BC Student Agencies", a group a student-run entrepreneurial businesses. Emily Broad, JD is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Social Science Resemilyearch Center and a Delta Clinical Fellow with Harvard Law School. She is providing leadership for the Delta Directions Consortium that seeks to improve the health and wealth of the Mississippi Delta. Her position is supported in part by the generosity of the Winokur Family Foundation.

Prior to joining the SSRC, Emily graduated cum laude from Harvard Law School. She also received a Bachelor of Arts in American History from Columbia University. Emily served as senior editor for International Law Journal Digest. Previous positions include clinical work at Harvard Law School through the International Human Rights Clinical, the Refugee and Asylum Clinical, the War Crimes Clinical and an independent clinical at the Support Center for Child Advocates in Philadelphia. Emily also worked as a summer legal associate at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton LLP and the Khmer Institute for Democracy (Cambodia). Prior to law school, she worked as Executive Director of JSPAN, a start-up non-profit organization based on of Philadelphia, as a consultant to the Pennsylvania Trade Representative to Japan, and as a White House intern in the Office of Cabinet Affairs.

Emily is interested in taking research that has been done on the Delta and finding ways to turn this into transformational and interdisciplinary change in the region. To this end, she works not only with Mississippi State and Harvard Law School, but also with individuals at various institutions including Harvard School of Public Health, University of Tennessee Medical Center, Delta State University, Dreyfus Health Foundation, and various local partners.
